About Us

The Economic Society of Australia (Queensland) Inc. (The Society) is a voluntary association that was incorporated under the provisions of the Associations Incorporation Act (Qld) in 1985.

The principal objectives of the Society are to:

·         Encourage the study of economics and its applications in Australia and to encourage informed public debate of economic and related questions

·         Issue publications concerning the interests of members and to advance the objects of the Society

·         Co-operate with the other Branches and the Central Council of The Economic Society

·         Conduct seminars, symposia, conferences and other meetings to advance the objectives of the Society

·         Promote the teaching and study of economics

To forward these objectives the Society facilitates a wide variety of activities. The Society regularly hosts formal and informal luncheons which feature notable economists who speak on a wide range of topics. It produces the EAP (Economic Analysis and Policy)Journal several times a year. The Society sponsors scholarships at Queensland’s major Universities and also sponsors a Young Economists Group. The Young Economists Group provides young professionals with a forum to discuss topical economic issues and offers mentoring programs with senior ESA Members.

Under the rules of the Society the day to day administration of its affairs resides in the hands of the Management Committee which is elected at the Annual General Meeting of the Society.
