Criteria and Procedures

  • Each university is required to register with the Economics Society (NSW Branch) an interest in being involved in the Honours Economics State Awards (HESA)
  • 4 prizes of $500 plus two years free membership of the Society will be awarded each year to the best students studying Honours in Economics at a New South Wales university. The awards will be judged on the basis of the grades obtained, quality of the thesis and two academic references submitted by Honours supervisors and/or Honours coordinators. Where a thesis is not required under an Honours program, academic referees will be asked to comment on the research, analytical and written capabilities of the nominated student(s)
  • Winners of the awards will be determined by a sub-committee of the Economics Society (NSW Branch)
  • Nominations for HESA must be submitted to the President, Economic Society of Australia (NSW Branch), PO Box 937 St Ives NSW 2075 - by 31 December each year, with decisions to be notified by early February
  • The annual HESA award recipients will be publicised in the Society's newsletter and website, with a certificate issued by the Branch President to the winners - either in person at their own university ceremony or at a subsequent Society function.
