The Discipline of Economics at the University of Sydney invites applications for permanent positions at the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level. Outstanding applied economists in any field are encouraged to apply. It is intended that successful applicants will be available to commence employment by July 2009 but this may be negotiated.
 
For appointment at the lecturer level (equivalent to an assistant professor in the North American system), the successful applicant must have a complete or near complete PhD in any area of economics; some evidence of high quality teaching with experience at the lecturer or tutor (teaching assistant) level, the ability to publish in the leading journals in economics and to attract competitive research funding; and the ability to supervise honours students.
 
For a senior lecturer appointment, the successful applicant must have a PhD in economics; evidence of high quality teaching with substantial experience, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level; proven contributions to course and program development; an established research record including a significant number of publications in leading international journals; the ability to publish in the leading journals in economics and to attract competitive research funding; evidence of leadership skills and ability to foster excellence in research, teaching and policy development in the discipline; evidence of successful teamwork and a collegial approach to academic work; and experience in honours and/or postgraduate supervision.
 
The positions are continuing subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees.
 
The Discipline of Economics is located within the multidisciplinary Faculty of Economics and Business. The Discipline has a diverse range of teaching and research interests. It teaches courses to students undertaking broadly based social science and business degrees, as well as those training as professional economists.
 
Remuneration package Senior Lecturer level: $108,368 - $124,843 (which includes a base salary Senior Lecturer Level C $91,573 - $105,589 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).
 
Remuneration package Lecturer level: $88,465 - $105,052 (which includes a base salary Lecturer Level B $74,755 - $88,771 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).
